The Mission
Layne Kenric

The railroad payroll is an inviting challenge and one that Vance Wright and his gang are more than willing to take on. But someone else is also after that prize - a man called Cy Telford who carries an aura of menace and a lightning fast gun. Impressed, Wright asks Telford to join his gang. But every man has a failing and Telford's is revealed during the robbery when he stops Wright killing the bank cashier Amy Younger. As she can identify the gang they take her along but her presence begins to bring out more of the ruthless nature of the gang members.

Layne Kenric has written a very fast moving, action-packed, traditional western in The Mission. The main characters are all tough and brutal and it's into this world that Amy Younger is thrust, seeing her fantasies of Telford being a noble outlaw shattered as the gang argue over her fate, makes for a great read even though the twist is a little obvious from the beginning.

If you want a quick easy read of pure escapism then this book will satisfy your need well.
